Draft Compliance and Enforcement Policy Review

Consultation period: 2 February 2026 – 1 March 2026

Council has reviewed and updated the Draft Compliance and Enforcement Policy.

The purpose of this Policy is to support Council’s regulatory functions to enable Council to:

  • act promptly, effectively and consistently in response to the allegations of unlawful activity
  • ensure those functions are exercised proportionally, without bias, and in accordance with legislation
  • improve compliance management and reduce the impact of unlawful activity on the community and the environment
  • ensure that any discretion exercised by Council’s authorised officers in relation to unlawful activity, is done so in an appropriate manner.

This Policy is based on the NSW Ombudsman Enforcement Guidelines for Councils and Model Policy.

Next steps:

Following community consultation, Council will review and consider all feedback. Some changes may be made to the Policy. It will then be finalised and reported to Council for adoption. We will keep interested members of the community updated.
