Consultation period: 11 October to 8 November 2022

Sutherland Shire Council has made changes to its Compliance and Enforcement Policy.

This policy applies to unlawful activity related to all matters with Council's regulatory responsibilities: development and building control, fire safety, trees, pollution, food safety, public health and safety, parking, abandoned articles, companion animals, swimming pools, and more.

This policy details proceedings and situations to be considered at the various stages of enforcing regulations. Its principles are founded on being in the best interest of the community. Council will always be accountable, transparent, consistent, and timely in its decision-making.

Following the recent review, the policy has been amended to add references to Council’s Code of Conduct for Council Staff in order to reinforce the importance of:

  • impartiality and lack of bias or conflict of interest of authorised officers; and
  • observing and adhering to Council’s established Code of Conduct framework.

The draft Policy is available in the document library on this page. Feedback can be submitted through the comments section below.
