Who prescribes the Code of Meeting Practice?
The Model Code of Meeting Practice is prescribed under section 360 of the Local Government Act 1993. All Councils must adopt a Code of Meeting Practice that incorporates the mandatory provisions of the Model Code of Meeting Practice. It can also include the non-mandatory provisions and additional supplementary provisions.
Why is the Code of Meeting Practice being updated?
The Office of Local Government issued a new model Code of Meeting Practice in August 2025, and requires all Councils to adopt a Code by 31 December 2025 that incorporates the new model provisions.
Why does Council have a separate Public Forum Policy?
It is not mandatory to hold a Public Forum. Council chooses to hold one and the Public Forum Policy provides the processes and procedures for these Forums.
