FAQs
Why is Council proposing to relocate the playground at Beaumaris Drive Reserve?
The existing playground at Beaumaris Drive is in need of renewal. This provides an opportunity to review the suitability of a playground at this location.
Council’s service standards for local playgrounds include short-stay playgrounds which focus on play for a single age group (usually younger children) within 10 minutes walk from most homes.
The site at Beaumaris Drive is challenging to deliver these service standards given the steep slopes, lack of sight lines and isolated location.
In order to improve accessibility, play opportunities and ensure the playground can be used by more people in our local community, Council are proposing to relocate the playground to Colwyn Street Reserve.
Are there any locations for the playground other than Colwyn Close Reserve?
There are no other suitable locations nearby for a playground. Colwyn Close Reserve was chosen as it is central to the local community, it has open space and safe access.
Can the playground be larger if it's being relocated?
The existing playground at Beaumaris Drive is small for a local playground and the play value is limited. This is largely due to site constraints such as slope, location and existing vegetation.
There is scope to provide a suitably-sized playground with a greater range of play equipment at Colwyn Close Reserve. This includes play equipment such as slides, climbing equipment and swings plus additional seating, waste bins and drinking fountain (subject to services on the site).
Can the playground at Beaumaris Drive Reserve stay as well as the new playground at Colwyn Close?
The playground at Beaumaris Drive Reserve is at the end of its life and needs to be renewed. If the proposed playground is constructed at Colwyn Close Reserve, Council will decommission the existing playground at Beaumaris Reserve.
