Sport Strategy and Implementation Plan

Consultation period: 16 September - 28 October 2022

Council is exhibiting a draft Sport Strategy and Implementation Plan 2022-2037.

This is Sutherland Shire's first dedicated sport strategy, developed in close consultation with our community, including sporting codes, associations and relevant Council business units.

The Strategy aims to establish a framework which will positively contribute to an active, safe, healthy, vibrant and liveable community over the next 15 years, one that:

  • Delivers a plan for growth – to ensure sports assets meet the needs of current and future generations of the Sutherland Shire.
  • Promotes participation, accessibility and inclusion –to encourage and provide access for people of all ages, physical abilities and interests to participate in sport improving health and well being.
  • Delivers programs and frameworks – to establish prioritised programs, polices and resources that will ensure optimal use, manage commercial pressures, and allocation of sporting assets.
  • Informs collaborative strategic asset management – to ensure the design, configuration, renewal and maintenance of our sporting assets maximise capacity and participation aligning with the needs of the community.
  • Provides value for the community – determining appropriate service levels and resource allocation to meet needs and deliver best value from sport facility investment and management.
  • Supports and engages sports clubs and associations – to ensure good governance, sustainable operations and effective facility planning and development.
