Draft Masterplan Kareela Reserve

Consultation has concluded

Kareela Reserve (encompassing Kareela Oval and Harrie Dening Soccer Centre) is a key recreational area for the Sutherland Shire. Council is looking at ways to improve how the space is used and provide better opportunities for recreation.

Council has prepared a draft Masterplan for Kareela Reserve to guide its future use. Our focus is on improving safety and connections, accessibility, enhancing compliance and capacity of facilities and providing a flexible and inviting open space.

We consulted with the community in mid 2022 and have been working closely with key stakeholders. Feedback we received has helped shape the plan.

Improvement opportunities proposed in the draft Masterplan include:

  • new and upgraded multi-purpose buildings
  • additional half-sized field, multi-sport court and outdoor fitness area
  • new carpark off Bates Drive and improvements to the existing Princes Highway carpark
  • reconfiguration and regrading of the fields at Harrie Dening Soccer Centre to create two fenced compliant playing fields
  • accessible paths around and through the site, and a shared path for cyclists and pedestrians
  • improved shade, public amenities and spectator seating
  • more compliant sports fields with improved drainage and lighting
  • landscaping and tree planting.
